Jailbreak 6.0, iOS 6 for iPhone 4, 3Gs and iPod touch 4th Generation using Redsn0w
Today, the famed iPhone Dev Team hackers updated their wildly-popular RedSn0w utility to jailbreak iOS 6 with native Cydia support. While the new 6.0 firmware has been able to be jailbroken for some time through a simple Redsn0w and SSH workaround, this new update brings complete 6.0 support for Cydia.
Unfortunately, even with the new version of Redsnow, iOS-device users can only jailbreak iOS 6 using what’s commonly referred to as a Tethered jailbreak. Essentially, this means the device will have to be booted with the assistance of the RedSnow jailbreak utility every time it’s turned on.

Also, due to the nature of this Tethered jailbreak, only the following iOS devices are supported:
- iPod touch 4th Generation
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3GS
If you own of of the following newer iDevices, it’s not compatible with this iOS 6.0 jailbreak:
- iPod touch 5th Gen
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 4S
- 3rd Generation iPad 3
- iPad 2

Jailbreak iOS 6 and 6.0 for A4 iOS-devices
Step 1: Download the latest version of Redsn0w from the download section towards the end of this jailbreak tutorial. After downloading RedSn0w, simply open and run the utility. Also, for windows 7 and Vista users, you’ll be required to right click the Redsnow, set the compatibility mode for Windows XP (service pack 2) and allow Administrative privileges.
Step 2: Click the “Jailbreak” option and set your iOS 6 device into DFU mode by holding down the home and power buttons together for a total of ten seconds. After the initial ten seconds are up, release the power button and continue holding the home button for an additional ten seconds.
Step 3: Once the jailbreak utility has finished processing the firmware information, ensure that the option to install Cydia was checked by default and continue.
Step 4: Wait for the jailbreaking process to complete, after it has, your iPhone or iPod touch will automatically reboot.
Step 5: Close out of the Redsn0w utility and reopen it. Click “Extras”, followed by “Just boot” and enter DFU mode again (refer to the second step).
Downloads:
- redsn0w 0.9.15b1 for MAC OS X users
- redsn0w 0.9.15b1 for windows-based PC users
Congratulations, after just five simple steps, you’ve successfully jailbroken your iOS 6.0 iPhone or iPod touch. Also, as previously mentioned, because this is a tethered jailbreak, you’ll have to run through the fifth step of this tutorial every time you’re required to reboot your iOS-device.

Me too, the wait have been little long…
I need jailbreak for iPad 3… I have an iPad useless.
redsn0w 0.9.15 doesn’t support iPad 3…
You’re correct, it doesn’t.
When will the untethered jailbreak be released??
when is the untethered jailbreak!
How can I tell if I have a 4gs? I never heard of it.
Good catch.
done with jailbreak and also used the just boot function but there is still no cydia on my iphone 4???????
If you’re on a Mac, press control, open Redsn0w and try the entire process again - it’s possible you’ll need to restore via iTunes in order to properly Jailbreak. Also, ensure that you are indeed using Redsn0w 0.9.15b1.
i am on a pc and i am using the right version of redsnow, so restoring it might work? ill try that
Did this ever work for you?
no i have tried to do this process three times now and it has not worked
i jailbreak my ipod touch 4g but my WIFI doesn’t work now. What to do?
I use it and I don’t get the Cydia icon!
You will need to run through Redsn0w’s ‘Just boot’ option to get Cydia to appear.
I did, but still no Cydia icon!
Is this working for iPhone 3GS on iOS6?
Yes, and it’s UnTethered on the old Bootrom iPhone 3GS (I suggest Googling the difference)!
tried jailbreaking with iphone 3gs with old br and after i just booted cydia still wasnt there please help
Sad my iphone is iPhone4S..
So what about the 4s
Unfortunately, the latest Jailbreak for the iPhone 4S is the iOS 5.1.1 UnTethered Jailbreak (with either Absinthe v2 or Redsn0w). Just be sure to subscribe to our feed to be notified when a solution is available!
y i cant jailbreak my new ipad?
@BECKY If you jailbreak your device now you will not have to restore your device when they make a untethered jailbreak. They make a patch for the tethered jailbreak, once they make a untethered jailbreak, that converts the thethered into a untethered one. Hope this helps.
error “exploit failed”.. please help. thanks
will this jailbreak have all working cydia tweaks?
It?¦s actually a great and helpful piece of information. I am happy that you simply shared this helpful information with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thank you for sharing.
It’s possible that you might have to restore, because tethered jailbreak are different than untethered jailbreak, but it’s possible that you don’t have to restore it and just jailbreak the latest version, but it might ruin your phone…who knows…
Redsn0w keeps getting stuck at “preparing jailbreak data”
Followed the same steps in order, but Cydia never appeared? Using Ipod touch 4th gen.
You’ll need to reboot again using Redsn0w’s ‘Just boot’ option.
Tried a couple times, maybe it’s a bug that’ll be fixed later. Just booted, then pineapple logo, slide to unlock, but no cydia.
If I tethered jailbreak my phone now how hard will it be to jailbreak it when the untethered jailbreak comes out…will I have to restore?
Noo but it would be better if you did
So has the iOS 6 jailbreak (untethered) for iPod touch 5th Gen, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S ,3rd Generation, iPad 3, and iPad 2, been figured out yet? As in, have they been able to test it out and already have it, but is “underconstruction”? Please give info about the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, and what’s going on so far.
Seriously? All the available information is RIGHT HERE. Answer… WAIT!!!
They probably need to test it on the rumored “iPad mini”
