Comex Leaves Apple Just In Time to Jailbreak iOS 6?

Earlier today, Comex (an iOS hacker and security genius who is often referred to a the “wunderkind” of jailbreaking) announced that, as of last week, he has officially left Apple. The iOS guru abandoned the jailbreaking scene last year for for an incredible internship with Apple: the very company who once loathed the hacker.

How has Comex helped Jailbreaking? 

Nicholas Allegra, better known throughout the jailbreak community as Comex, released his first major public jailbreak utility (dubbed Spirit) for iOS 3.1.2 through 3.2 nearly three years ago. Following the development of Spirit, Comex released a userland jailbreaking tool by the name of Star or JailbreakMe 2.0, which brought a browser-based “slide to jailbreak” solution to iOS-based devices on 3.1.2 through 4.0.1.

Comex’s last major contribution to the world of jailbreaking came when he released Saffron, which is more commonly referred to as JailbreakMe 3.0. While certainly not as visually pleasing as JailbreakMe 2.0, Saffron brought another browser-based UnTethered jailbreak to iDevices running iOS 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2 and 4.3.3.

What does this mean for the future of jailbreaking and will Comex return to his long lost passion of iOS hacking just in time for iOS 6 (possibly JailbreakMe 4.0)? Only time will tell.
