Jailbreak iOS 9 Untethered Update: Pangu, TaiG and K33N, How to Jailbreak iOS 9.0 and 8.4 Status - In light of iOS 9 having recently entered developer beta testing, and the fact that Pangu has successfully achieved an iOS 8.3 jailbreak, it’s time to look forward towards the future: the second half of 2015, iOS 9’s release and beyond. iOS 9.0 will be released to the general public in the fall of 2015, alongside the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, as is already known to be the target of a few teams interested in jailbreaking iOS 9. However, to address the current state of jailbreak affairs prior to discussing what’s next for the community, the latest iOS 8.1.2 (and 8.2 betas 1 and 2) Untethered PP and TaiG jailbreak utilities were patched some months ago by Apple with the release of iOS 8.1.3 - a patch that’s persisted throughout iOS 8.x updates, including iOS 8.3 and the four iOS 8.4 betas. Before the public, and jailbreakers the world over, can truly settle into contemplating future iOS 9 utilities, when will we receive the final jailbreak for iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4, which will certainly be the final chapter for iOS 8.x? Looking back, last year’s iOS 7.1.x Pangu jailbreak remained unpatched from June of 2014 until September, when Apple issued iOS 8.0 to the masses, which is crucial to Having said that, when will the next jailbreak be released for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPod touch 5 and other iOS-based devices? Will jailbreak teams skip iOS 8.3 and 8.4 all together to jailbreak iOS 9? For a closer look at what to expect when it comes to the future and jailbreaking, particularly in relation to iOS 8.4 and 9.0, continue past the break!
As we wait for the final iOS 8 jailbreak, thought to be intended for iOS 8.4, Apple is already preparing iOS 9 for release in a matter of months. As with iOS 8.x, Apple will certainly prepare a number of releases in the calendar year to come, as jailbreak developers, namely Pangu, TaiG and the new k33n dev teams prepare to go toe-to-toe with said releases.
Up-to-date iOS 8.3 and 8.4 jailbreak information:
The next iOS 9 jailbreak and its development:
As a large number of jailbreakers continuously become stuck on a currently un-jailbreakable version of iOS 8, be it 8.1.3, 8.2, 8.3 or iOS 8.4 beta, the thought of the last iOS 8 jailbreak is increasingly becoming the white unicorn of the jailbreak world. Interestingly though, Pangu is said to have already achieved a new jailbreak on iOS 8.3 at MOSEC 2015 (short for the Mobile Security Conference).
However, as mentioned in the opening paragraph, Pangu is hoping for the same scenario as last year’s iOS 7.1.x jailbreak. In other words, with iOS 8.4 being the last major 8.x release prior to 9.0 this fall, the group is likely banking on the fact that Apple could leave the jailbreak unpatched until the latter firmware is available, like what happened with the original Pangu jailbreak. But, as with any new utility, a potential iOS 8.4 and iOS 8.3 jailbreak could still be patched by a measly 8.4.x incremental update.
Though the vulnerabilities exploited by Pangu during their demonstration at MOSEC almost certainly won’t persist in iOS 9, as the firmware will shake things up as far as security is concerned - i.e. iOS 8.4 is shaping up to be the opportune target for the release of a new jailbreak. PP, a group heavily involved in jailbreak (particularly where financing is concerned), also claimed recently that Pangu may publicize a new tool in July, ensuing 8.4’s availability.
Also, before moving to the future (iOS 9) it’s pertinent to mention that the latest TaiG Untethered Jailbreak utility still functions on the following iOS 8-powered devices:
Furthermore, TaiG (unfortunately) features limited support and includes the following variations of iOS 8:
Now, for iOS 9, a firmware that’s caused massive commotion on the jailbreak scene. Prior to its unveiling at Apple’s annual WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference), iOS 9 was speculated to feature “Rootless Security”, making it near-impossible to successfully jailbreak iOS 9 by today’s definition of the word.
However, while “Rootless” was the internal name for iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan’s (OS 10.11) improved security measures, there are those who remain confident an iOS 9 jailbreak is an attainable goal. Furthermore, as we highlighted in our exclusive pre-announcement article, “Rootless” doesn’t directly translate to ‘un-jailbreakable’.
According to the latest reports, a top-teir Chinese hacking group by the name of K33N plans to jailbreak iOS 9.0 when it’s release to the public or, at the very least, contribute to the creation of a tool by collaborating with Pangu. Thankfully, the team isn’t just blowing smoke, Keen has an impressive track record of exploiting Apple’s mobile software and successfully won a couple Pwn2own hacking competitions.
In other news, TaiG officially stated that they have no plans to jailbreak iOS 8.3 or 8.4 and instead are looking to rival k33n in creating a new jailbreak for iOS 9 this fall.
As we look forward, jailbreaking’s future is incredible bright, we’ll likely go from two active teams on the jailbreak scene (being Pangu and Taig) to three or more, who may all attempt to develop new tools to jailbreak future iterations of iOS 9. We all can care about iOS 9 in September… Right now we need to focus more on 8.3/4 not iOS 9 that’s another 3+ months I’d rather stick with iOS 8 that’s less then a month taiG and k33n can do their race while pangu and PP team up for iOS 8
Welcome to the endless game of cat and mouse, are toy new here? Plus, Pangu has already jailbroken iOS 8.3 and they’re expected to issue a tool following 8.4’s release - stay tuned: http://www.evasi0njailbreak.com/ios-8.3-jailbreak-8.4-release-date-k33n-ios-9-jailbreak/
So pangu jailbroken windows and pp is just for Mac or does PP soon support windows from a picture I’ve seen
Jeff Allen The breakdown is as follows: Pangu: iOS 8 - 8.1 (Mac and Windows) TaiG: iOS 8 - 8.1.2 & 8.2 betas 1/2 (Windows only) PP: iOS 8 - 8.1.2 & 8.2 betas 1/2 (Mac only)
My iPad Air is iOS 8.3 Is there a jailbreak for it out already
Give it 12-14 days that’s like 2 weeks vs 3 months for iOS 9
No jailbreak for 8.3 yet but keep an Eye on this Facebook page all 8.3 jail breaks are fake
I think they should work together on this one
TaiG likes to work alone for some reason but PP and Pangu are teaming up
They shouldn’t battle, they should work together.
Either… Competitions promotes innovation.
Sounds like a bounty… Good deal, preferred iOS 9, sweet features, still on 8.1.2 with the latest jb
You won’t want iOS 9 anyways half them features came from Jailbreak Community and iOS 9 gets rid of downloading profiles and vshare
When a ios 9 jailbreak is out i might update my 6plus but not my ipad 4th cos it probably sucks on the beta
Well iPads and iPhones are different in generation like iPod 4th supports only up to 6.1.6 as iPad 4 can go higher and iPhone (s) can go up so iPad had nothing to worry about
Jeff Allen iOS 9 is far superior to iOS 8. Every change in every version of iOS always comes from Jailbreak tweaks, Apple just perfects them.
Is there a jailbreak for the current version of iOS? My iPad is still on ios7 and I was thinking of upgrading but don’t want to lose my jailbreak.
No jailbreak yet. Don’t upgrade iOS.
Thanks William.
can stick ios 9 where the sun dont shine, had it last week drains battery like i down a pint lol back on 8.3/…………………
Kevin Charles - Yes, you can jailbreak on iOS 7.x with Pangu (just skip the portion pertaining to the restore, as that was only relevant when 7.1.2 was the latest firmware): http://www.evasi0njailbreak.com/jailbreak-7.1.1-untethered-ios-7.1-pangu-iphone-5s-ipad-all-idevices/
