iOS 6.1.3 Will Likely Patch Evasi0n 6.1.2 Jailbreak, iOS 7 UnTethered Solution In Development - Today, in a new interview with Forbes, David Wang (an instrumental member of the evad3rs and a security expert who’s more commonly known online by his twitter handle: @planetbeing) confirmed that iOS 6.1.3 patches at least one of the five major untethered jailbreak exploits utilized by evasi0n. In light of that fact, it’s likely that the final release of iOS 6.1.3 will patch the UnTethered Evasi0n iOS 6 through 6.1.2 Jailbreak.

While Apple has yet to address the evasion jailbreak and has left the vulnerabilities utilized by evasi0n virtually untouched in the two iOS updates since the jailbreak utility’s releases, 6.1.1 and 6.1.2, there’s a highly-logical explanation as to why they haven’t given priority to patching the jailbreak.

Similar to the Absinthe UnTethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1, which Apple decided to turn a blind eye to until they finally released iOS 6 months later, due to the nature of the jailbreak exploits harnessed, evasi0n poses a low security threat  and has therefore been deemed as a less important iOS issue in need of correction.

Although evasi0n will inevitably be patched, according to planetbeing, the jailbreak utility’s primetime isn’t over yet. Planetbeing is confident, based on past releases and history, that Apple will take their time with iOS 6.1.3 and that the update will likely remain exclusive to developers for the next month.

While there’s no questioning that the nature of today’s news is rather bleak, planetbeing also hinted in the interview that the evad3rs have another untethered jailbreak in the works, which will likely be reserved for iOS 7. “If they patch most of the bugs,” planetbeing said, “Then we’re starting from scratch”.
