How to Install Cydia On iOS 8 Post Jailbreak 8.1 via Pangu, Can I Get Cydia? Detailed Jailbreak Installation Tutorial - Yesterday was arguably one of the most exciting days in the world of jailbreaking, as the Pangu Team’s second Untethered jailbreak utility was released to the masses: Pangu for iOS 8, which fully support, and jailbreaks, 8.1 on all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models! However, until earlier today, there was one significant catch - Cydia Substrate, which is essentially the foundation upon which jailbreak developers build tweaks - wasn’t updated to support iOS 8, let alone 8.1. While the team clarified that they ‘rushed’ their tool to ensure that the majority of jailbreakers could take full advantage of this incredible opportunity (we have no clue when Apple will release an updated firmware such as 8.1.1 to patch the vulnerabilities exploited by Pangu for iOS 8) it would have been nice if Pangu had better coordinated their release with Saurik to bundle the utility with an updated version of Cydia. Having said that, with only a day between Pangu’s release and Saurik’s Cydia and subsequent Cydia Substrate, updates, there’s absolutely nothing that warrants complaint. Not only can the public jailbreak 8.1 for the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, 5c, 5, 4s, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, the original iPad mini, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2 and the 5th generation iPod touch, but we can now install Cydia with Substrate for the installation of updated tweaks - continue reading past the break for a complete tutorial on installing Cydia post 8.1 Pangu jailbreak!
How To Install Cydia - Can I get Cydia Post Jailbreak 8.1 With Pangu?
Prior to delving into this tutorial, and installing Cydia, your device must be successfully jailbroken on iOS 8 through 8.1 using the latest iteration of Pangu - if you have yet to jailbreak, we strongly advise following our tutorial for all iDevices.
Additionally, while we’ll update our tutorial on Pangu for iOS 8 relatively soon, the below video also highlights instructions for rectifying any potential complications with the new tool (skip to approximately 14:20 into the video to review said instructions).
Now, without further ado, let’s proceed with the following steps, which are required to install Cydia on any jailbroken iPhone, iPod touch or iPad model that running 8.0, 8.0.1 (if you’re on this dreaded firmware, please update to 8.1), 8.0.2 or the latest 8.1 public release.
Cydia Install On iOS 8.1 Post Pangu Jailbreak - Detailed Tutorial!
1. Ensure that your device is jailbroken by following our complete, albeit mostly video-centered, jailbreak 8.1 tutorial. Once jailbroken, ensure that your iOS-based device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer and obtain the Wi-Fi IP address of said iOS device.
- To do so, simply launch the default Settings app, tap the “Wi-Fi” pane, followed by the ‘i’ button to the right of the connected network - take note of the sequence listed in the IP Address field.
2. Launch the Pangu app from your iPhone, iPad or iPod and install OpenSSH; refer to the above video if you’re at all confused by this step.
3. Download and install any SSH program, two of the recommended tools are listed in our download section below, and establish an SSH connection with the following settings:
Host and/or Server field: [Insert your device’s IP address] - acquired in the first step.
Username: root
Password: alpine
4. Once connected via SSH, transfer the two files found in the below download section into the following directory:
private/var/root
- Your SSH client should automatically resolve to the above directory by default, if, for what ever reason, it doesn’t, you’ll be required to manually navigate to it.
5. Depending on your SSH program, you’ll need to get to the interface for command line and execute the following command through the SSH program itself (if you’re confused by this step, refer to the instructions as highlighted during the video):
dpkg --install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
Windows PC users: While the above command will work for most, and is required for Mac users, it’s recommended that you execute the following three commands in sequential order instead.
dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb
dpkg -i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
dpkg -i cydia
6. Manually reboot your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with its power button. Once your device boots up, launch Cydia, allow the device’s filesystem to reorganize, and the device to respring, slide through the unlock screen, open Cydia again and, finally, search for and install “Cydia Substrate”.
- Important Post-Step: Succeeding every reboot, you’ll be required to respring in order to regain full use of the tweaks you’ll eventually install via Cydia. To do so, simply execute the following command inside your SSH program of choice:
killall backboardd
- [the second ‘d’ in “backboardd” is both intentional and required]

Hello, I do believe your website may be having web browser compatibility problems.
Whenever I take a look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine however when opening
in I.E., it’s got some overlapping issues. I simply wanted
to provide you with a quick heads up! Aside from that, excellent site!
HI guys.
Ive now jb with the new pangu 1.2.0. Opened cydia started to download my tweaks. Everything worked fine until now, when i try to upgrade cydia installer or download something else in cydia it appears=
Could not open lock file
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.saurik.cydia/archives/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
whats going on?
Can you guys please help me!!!!!! after I install cydia on my iphone 6 every time I try to open the music app it crashes
ok now i cant even get cydia so i used the autoinstall method and then when i say to dkpg install thing and it says rounding up cydia i reboot like 20 times and cydia wont appear
Same happened to me… you will need to back up ur device then restore through iTunes to stock ios 8.1 (like new) then you’ll jailbreak and install cydia and then finally when cydia is installed then you can restore from backup on iTunes.
thanks it works
So i tried to uninstall flipswitch and now my iphone is stuck on the apple logo doing nothing just sitting there do i gotta like restore again and do it all over again because i tried Pressing the + for like forever nothing is happening yes i did install the pangu untether

Hi, I had jailbreak my iphone 4S and now i tried to install cydia on my iphone using the cyberduck, but the connection was fail. Is there anyone can guide me? Thank you.
Jailbreak worked for me but anytime I try to restart the phone i get stuck at lock screen and need to restore. Anyone else have this issue or offer solution?
I had the same issue with my iphone 5s. What I did was : I created a backup on itunes (with my phone on ios 8.1 and all my data on it), then turned “on” the airplane mode, then followed the tutorial (jailbreak using pangu, uncheck the box, tap on icon, install openssh, install cydia) and now it works perfectly fine, and is jailbroken ! Hope it’ll work for you too, have a nice day !
Airplane mode doesn’t work, you still get stuck at lock screen after restarting the phone. To those who were able to install the cydia, try restarting your phone again and see if this glitch will happen to you. Does anyone know any solution for yhis?
Does this not work on the 4S?
run both commands on the same line. So it should look like dpkg –install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
when thats done go to pangu>manager>remove - scroll down to ‘pangu’ and press delete. Now press the home button and re-open pangu again and press force remove.
you are a genius. nobody has been able to help me with this. holy crap thanks a bunch
Wow thanks!! This guy knows what hes talking about everyone with problems try this.
I work thank you,
Thanks soo much been messing about all afternoon
I would AVOID REMOVING PANGU AT ALL COSTS! If there are any updates to the untether or any other system-related updates you will not be able to install them without the Pangu app for now.
Thank You very much. You very helpfull. 😀
Did everything on windows, got up to “Setting up cydia (1.1.13) …” then basically stuck.. rebooted and never found Cydia. did this over and over with the same result. I’ve seen this problem reported with no actual working response. can anyone offer a step by step that works. I mean one that really works not one that should work
I have the same problem.. I sent the command, rebooted and never found Cydia..
Help?
I have an iPhone 4, not a iPhone 4S, if I update to the latest iOS8, will I be able to jailbrake my phone using Pangu?
Please check in setting to see what IOS it will update to. Some Iphones wont even allow IOS 8 to install. I would highly recommend staying on IOS 7xx until a full jailbreak with Cydia is available for IOS 8.xx
Lets clarify
Ok pangu released their very clever Jailbreak to achieve root access. Although at the time of the Jailbreak Cydia was not compatible with IOS 8. Even so pangu released the jailbreak in the hope developers could take advantage of this and accelerate mods and Apps.
I agree that Pangu should have tried to time it better with cydia but at the same time it can be installed by the tech savvy. Jailbreaking is NOT for the average Joe who wants a quick fix or to even make money from this. I personally use Jailbreaking for app creation and to get rid of the user interface that I hate.
It’s about time people realise the effort and time that goes into this.
You also may note that Apple released a new update I believe this is attempt to block the root access but to be honest I won’t even bother trying to update to the latest ios as their is nothing wrong with the one I am using. I personally have no issues so I say its not broke don’t fix it.
iOS 7.1.2 we had to change the date to use their JB and now this one (iOS 8.1) to get the cydia substrate ourselves. I wish pangu would stop these half a$$ jobs or just leave it for evasi0n do it!!
Yet again I see people slating pangu. As root access has been acheived there is no need for another jail break. If you are serious about jail breaking learn about it first. Of course unless you want pangu to wipe your bum for you and hold your hand then dont bother. Pangu has done us a big favour. Please do not slate these very clever people ir they may just say stuff all of us.
The iPhone 4S was mentioned as being able to be jailbroken. Can the iPhone 4 be jailbroken?
Yes it can be Jail broeken
If you not on IOS 8 download the older version of Pangu from here
http://en.pangu.io/
When going through the list of idevices the iPhone 4S was mentioned, but not the iPhone 4. Can the iPhone 4 be jailbroken?
Yeah make sure u have find your iPhone turned off and restore after you jailbreak and install Cydia!! Also read redmondpie.com site for installs as this forgot the second DPKG !! As u need both to install Cydia proper! With that in your ssh program u use make sure u have the left side open to where u have you dpkg files and a webpage open to both comAnd lines.. Works great. But be very careful as some tweaks work and sone don’t and you will have to repeat process !! BELIEVE ME!! Lmao.. Search which tweaks work as they are loads that do even though it states they won’t .. But be patient as I want and had to repeAt 3 times bc I wanted to test certain tweaks I use a lot… Also if nothing show on spring board (winter board might cause issues so don’t install yet twice I did and twice all went crap) reboot device if reboot don’t work!! Man anyone find battery drain? Also this new keyboard changes words more than regular auto correct?
Cydia never installs have tried it about 10 times on windows 8.1
here is the solution “http://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comments/2k0jr5/got_cydia_to_install/clgx83p”
hi m8 😉
its sinple…
pangu console is open when you jailbreak your iphone, when its done, LEAVE it open all until you are completed using sshopen and maked the commands, when your done doing the:
dpkg -install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
let it be for aprox. 3 minutes, and then JUST let all open, BUT reboot your iphone PLUGGED still, when its restarting, your cydia is installed.
YEH it seems stupid, but i got same prob as you on 4 iphone6 and 1 ipad, after i did it that way all works fine now 😉
Best ragards from Dennis DK
Guys !! Just plug your iPhone to the pc and do a fresh restore to 8.1 with iTunes ,, proceed to do the jailbreake with pangu 8, After finsh install, open pangu app and install ssh, nex proceed with the steps above .. You shouldn’t have problems
Its not working its giving me error code 17
i done tryed this like 20 times and i cant get cydia can some one help me im on windows
I need help, i finished all of the steps then i rebooted my iphone 6 plus and now i am stuck on apple logo and it wont start back up, tried recovery with itunes and it gave me error 11
I am having the same issue….HELP!!!! Stuck on the apple logo!!!!
Mine was after I did the restore in iTunes….I got it jailbroken…maybe I shouldn’t have done the restore? Wish I would’ve known that…what do I do now? iTunes won’t even recognize my phone and neither does Pangu to try it all over again…what do I do?!
Got it! Totally forgot how to do DFU mode…I was holding lock and home button and that’s it, but you have to hold the home button by itself after….see below:
Plug into computer and launch iTunes. Then power + home for 10 seconds, then hold home button until it recognizes the iPhone as in recovery mode
Hope this helps!!
i fixed it, my problem was within the hosts file, i must have changed it at one point to go back to old ios and never changed it back to original file, if anyone needs it here it is

It says permission denied ?
When i execute command

Will cydia be integrated into the Pangu jailbreak soon or should I just jailbreak now & install cydia separate.
Crash Override, NICE TALKING, I think they are greatfully but Just pis off for the issue Cydia. Your words going to help much people because of the easy way you have explained. There are a lot people that find the tips and workout for install Cydia to difficult or have no time because of work. Jailbreak going realative fast but the work for complete the settings - apps and tweaks cost many hour. So I respect this young people that gives us the possibility to jailbreak. Because of time I will wait with the jailbreak. I’m now on 7.1.2 , when cydia is infiltrated in the jailbreak than i check to update iTunes and iPhone and go for it. Thanks for your hint!
I used a mac and cyber duck and it did everything like it was supposed too but i don’t see cydia on my hem page?
everything went very well…. but cant find cydia substrate in the search bar…can u pls help me out on this…thnx
I have iphone5 and this works for me. Download Putty.exe and put it in folder: C/Program Files (x86)/PuTTY
then do this
My Solution to the Setting up Cydia, and not showing on SpringBoard
Open PuTTY in winscp
Run this Command first
dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb
then
dpkg -i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
Then
dpkg -i cydia
then type
reboot
Then I got it on my springboard after trying everything else.
(from the guy youssefsala7 on reddit)
how did you do this????
I swear I did replied you but nothing appears here
Do everything as instrution until Winspc installed
Go online and download putty.exe and put it in the direction I mentioned
sh*t, email me at [email protected] and I’ll answer you in person
I also did this on windows and still stuck at “setting up cydia” and never got a serious warning also
Can we get an ETA on the evasion jailbreak.
The evad3rs won’t release evasi0n for iOS 8.1… There’s no point, Pangu has already achieved Untethered root access.
Looks like they got schooled again. Maybe they should take some lessons from the Chinese.
everything is awesome …
thx
can i install appsync on ios 8
When i executed the command “dpkg -install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb” using winSCP, it was stuck to “Setting up cydia-lproj (1.1.12) …
Setting up cydia (1.1.13) …”
I waited for 15 mins and it was still like that and never said “installed”. Pls help, thanks.
mines doing the same thing
bonjour
j’ai suivie le tuto pas de cydia apres redemarage
tuto bidon encore……… pas de cydia
Tony, do it yourself or stfu and be thankful we have at least this.
I did it in windows(PC).. got up to “Setting up cydia (1.1.13) …” then basically stuck.. rebooted and never found Cydia.. don’t know what went wrong
Same for me. Usually you it gives a serious warning but not for us. I think we are doing something wrong..?
going backwards a Chinese jailbreak I can’t understand with no Cydia on it. Pretty pathetic really
Hello, Im very sad to see you dislike the chinese Jail break. The reason for no cydia is that cydia has been having issues with compatibility with IOS 8 frame work. A lot has changed since IOS 8 and perfectly honest I’m astounded that you slate this jail brak. These guys and girls spend hours to find ways in to IOS and bring you free stuff. You are ungrateful.
But at the same time The jail break is worth getting on the basis that you can install Apps that you donalod of your fav download site such as iphonecake.com then download a programme called iFunbox this will allow you to install appsthat you download on a Jail broken device with out cydia. Ok the in app purchases not there but hey you getting apps for free. Although I believe that in the next few days cydia will be working great.
give me 8.0.2
Great so we are good to go. I though am hanging back on iOS 7.1.2 as I rely on tweaks such as appcloning. It may need updating for iOS 8.1 conpatibility. If anyone does the new jb and finds appcloning works let me know
Everything works over here Apps are working fine again just de tweaks not! Where i can find appcloning? then i try it for you 😉
