How To Jailbreak 7.1.1 And The UnTethered Possibility - iOS 7.1.1’s Truth

Can I Jailbreak 7.1.1 Untethered?

Can I Jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 UnTethered? How to Jailbreak 7.1.1 Tethered And The UnTethered Truth - Last week, Apple released iOS 7.1.1 to the general public, the first iOS 7.1.x update since the company issued the evasion UnTethered jailbreak patching 7.1 firmware last month. As with every iOS update, a number of individuals interested in jailbreaking updated their iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models to iOS 7.1.1, be it intentional or otherwise. Now, previously answered by our staff, the question that’s on the majority of our readers’ minds is: “can I jailbreak 7.1.1 UnTethered”? While it’s a good, and certainly valid question, the truth of the matter for those unlucky enough to have updated to iOS 7.1.1, is that they’ll be stuck for some time. In today’s article we’ll not only answer whether you can jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 on various iDevice models, such as the iPhone 5s and iPad Air mini, but we’ll also delve into the future of jailbreaking and what the future holds for jailbreak enthusiasts beyond iOS 7.1.1 and future 7.1.x updates.

Can I Jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 Untethered? The Truth Behind 7.1.x

Can I Jailbreak 7.1.1 Untethered?
Before we begin, it’s important to realize that Apple patched a number of the vulnerabilities exploited by the evasi0n jailbreak to achieve root access on all devices before the company even released iOS 7.1 to the public.

As confirmed by our staff, by the time Apple seeded iOS 7.1 beta 5 to registered developers, the vulnerabilities in iOS that evasion exploited were entirely patched. Prior to that, we continued to warn our readers to “avoid 7.1 like the plague” months ahead of the firmware’s March 2014 release.

Unfortunately, as mentioned above, users still updated to both the evasi0n jailbreak-crushing 7.1 firmware and the latest iOS 7.1.1 firmware release.

How to Jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 - The UnTethered Possibility

iCrackUriDevice’s latest Jailbreak episode on the current iOS 7.1.1 Untethered status.

So while there isn’t an UnTethered jailbreak tool for iOS 7 through 7.1.1, that doesn’t mean it’s “impossible” for the evad3rs to jailbreak 7.1.1. The real question isn’t “is it possible to jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 Untethered?” but instead, “will the evad3rs release an UnTethered 7.1.1 jailbreak?” - the answer is a disappointing “no”.

In addition to numerous jailbreak-oriented blogs (Jailbreak Evasion Info is no exception), the members of the evad3rs themselves warned the public not to update to iOS 7.1(.1). At this point, the team isn’t interested in burning through extremely valuable exploits that could otherwise be saved to jailbreak Apple’s next major firmware update: iOS 8.

Looking to the past for the evad3rs’ pattern, it’s all but certain that the team will wait until both iOS 8 and Apple’s next round of iPhone and iPad models are released to he public before issuing their next UnTethered utility.

As for a current option, there’s a utility available for iPhone 4 users that utilizes Geohot’s 4 year old limera1n hardware-based exploit to jailbreak the older device Tethered. Due to the nature of the exploit utilized, it’s nothing new, but still better than nothing for those who still own an iPhone 4.

For newer iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners (iPhone 5s,5c, 5, iPhone 4s, iPod Touch 5, iPad Air, Mini 2, 4 and iPad 3), there isn’t an option to jailbreak 7.1.1 and there won’t be for future versions of 7.1.x either (if Apple were to release 7.1.2 and/or 7.1.3 for instance) - the only solution is the iOS 7.0 through 7.0.6 evasi0n7 jailbreak. If you own one of the aforementioned devices running iOS 7.1 or 7.1.1, you’ll simply need to wait until the evad3rs push the team’s upcoming tool after iOS 8 is available.

Until then, if you don’t see a utility explicitly outlined on our site, it’s guaranteed to be fake. We’ll always report on new jailbreak tools the instant they’re released - if you’d like to be instantly notified when we do, subscribe to our Jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 Evasion Info news feed, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and add us on Google+ and keep your browsers locked to Jailbreak Evasion Info.

sorry for my bad english=) I´m an Italian boy

  8. I’m so glad I have a iphone 4!!! I am sad tho that ios will probably be the end of the support for my awesome phone. While I am on untethered 7.0.6. I love the fact that I could update if wanted and at least have a semi-tethered jailbreak forever if needed. My thanx and gratitude to the few ppl who make jailbreaking possible! You guys rock!

    1. We completely agree, it’s great that the owners of the older iPhone 4 can jailbreak on any firmware, including iOS 7.1.1. Unfortunately though, Apple will likely stop supporting the device in iOS 8 :(

  9. I think this is an attempt to squelch the hundreds (probably thousands) of requests for info about jailbreak on 7.1. I use XDA for my android needs and a thread of 25 post can have 3 or 4 request for the info provided in the first post.
I see site after site promising a new jailbreak for 7.1 if you just pay. Also when there is a diverse group some who learn in different ways. English is not the first language for everyone and translating is not always accurate.
    Flaming is not the answer!
Thanks for the update on the current status of 7.1! Continue to keep us updated with current and accurate information.

  10. As you guys send warnings about updating to the latest OS, maybe you should also include a suggestion. Some of us are not familiar with all the options available to jailbroken devices. My phone crashed and I was forced to update to 7.1 when I restored my 4S. Literally a day or so later I saw a comment on one of your posts talking about a semi-restore which doesn’t remove your jailbreak. Naturally I cursed the world. I have no right to demand anything but maybe you can mention something about the semi-restore option for those whose devices crash and are forced to restore when you send out warnings about updating to the latest OS.

  11. Instead of working on a jailbreak for the current OS, why not have a whack at the method Apple uses to prevent folks from restoring to previous versions of IOS that are already jail broken? I was perfectly fine with 7.06 until my 5s started fscking up and had to be restored after 7.1 came out.

    Just my .02 cents —Mongo

    1. I agree with “Mongo”‘s idea for finding a method to downgrade, after all this down time it could have been a good possibility. Or possibly we could have developed an apple mimic server in which phones in DFU may be restored to such firmwares that are not the latest and most current. I am glad I stayed with 7.0.6. Although, I have a friend attempting to purchase my last iPhone which is the 4S and I may have to put up with the tainted firmware for s short time.

    2. With the current restore method Apple utilizes, it’s virtually impossible - there simply isn’t a way, even with the proper exploits. Previously, Apple used SHSH tickets/blobs to validate restores. When they realized customers could grab those and use Tiny Umbrella to locally restore, they completely revised their restore system. It won’t be possible to downgrade 7.1.1 to 7.0.4, or even 7.0.6.
