Apple Releases iOS 6.1.1 Beta After Monday’s Evasion Untethered Jailbreak Utility

Apple Releases 6.1.1 Beta 1 After Monday’s Evasion Untethered Jailbreak iOS 6.1 Utility - Only two days have passed since the evad3rs released their UnTethered 6.1 evasion jailbreak utility and today, Apple already seeded iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 to developers. Remember, as of now, 6.1.1 is only a beta firmware and is therefore exclusive to those who are enrolled in Apple’s official iOS developer program. Additionally, if one were to successfully restore a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the 6.1.1 beta, Cydia would be removed and the device would be left without a jailbreak.

Apple Releases iOS 6.1.1 Beta After Monday’s Untethered 6.1 Jailbreak Utility

Featuring only a small number changes and additions, which are irrelevant to most iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners, 6.1.1 drastically improves Apple’s Maps app for Japanese users.

The following iOS 6.1.1 change-log has can be found in Apple’s official developer release notes for the new firmware:

iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 includes the following improvements to Maps for Japan:
- Improved pronunciation of roads during turn-by-turn navigation
- Optimized directions to more strongly prefer highways over narrower roads
- Now indicates upcoming toll roads during turn-by-turn navigation
- Added labels for junctions, interchanges, on-ramps, off-ramps, and intersections
- Added indicators for transit station buildings, subway lines, and traffic lights
- Updated freeway color to green
- Updated icons for some location categories including fire stations, hospitals, and post offices Added 3D buildings including Tokyo Station, Japan Imperial Palace, and Tokyo Tower

While it’s currently unknown whether 6.1.1 patches the iOS 6.1 jailbreak exploits used in evasi0n, as MuscleNerd pointed out, jailbreakers should most definitely “stay away” from the update.
